Enrolled Agent (EA)

The Enrolled Agent (EA) course is a highly regarded tax practitioner program authorized by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, offering expertise in tax matters similar to professional certifications in India. Enrolled Agents are authorized to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and are recognized globally for their comprehensive knowledge and skills.

Why ENROLLED AGENT?

EAs have the authority to strategically represent and advocate for taxpayers, addressing diverse tax issues before the IRS. Efficient Short-Term Program: The EA course is structured as a short-term duration program, allowing individuals to acquire essential tax knowledge and skills efficiently. EXAM STRUCTURE

The Enrolled Agent exam comprises three parts, providing flexibility in the order of examination

1. Obtain a Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN)
2. Apply to take the Special Enrolment Examination (SEE)
3. Achieve passing scores on all 3 parts of the SEE
4. Apply for enrolment
5. Pass a suitability check, which will include tax compliance to ensure that you have filed all necessary tax returns and there are no outstanding tax liabilities; and criminal background

Each part of the SEE contains 100 questions.

Each part is 3.5 hours long. The actual seat time is 4 hours to allow for a tutorial, survey, and one scheduled 15-minute break.

Each exam part may be taken 4 times per testing window, which runs from May 1 to the end of February.

The test is offered from May 1 to the end of February of the following year. The test is not offered during the annual blackout period in March and April. During this time the test is updated with the most recent tax law.

• Cleared 1 part: Rs. 3.5-6 lakh per annum
• 1 part and 1 year experience: Rs. 7.5 lakh per annum
• 3 parts and 1 year experience: Rs. 12 lakh per annum

Enrolled Agents can pursue careers as tax practitioners in various organizations, including big 4 companies, US-based MNCs, Indian companies with a US presence, public accounting firms, law firms, corporate accounting departments, revenue departments, investment firms, and banks.
