Two consecutive years of professional experience in financial management and/or management accounting are required of candidates seeking the CMA certification. After completing the test, this prerequisite might be finished before or within seven years.

Persistent 20-hour-per-week part-time jobs that satisfy the criteria for qualified experience will be applied toward this criterion at a rate of one year of experience for every two years of part-time work.
