To qualify as an ACCA member, a candidate will be required to do the following:
Attempt and clear 13 exams, earning you the status of an ACCA affiliate; record 3-year experience in a relevant role (the candidate can acquire the experience before/during/after completion of the qualification); and complete the ethics and professional skills module.
The minimum entry requirement for entering the ACCA qualification is 12th grade (65% marks in English and Accountancy/Mathematics and over 50% on the others) and with graduation you can get exemptions accordingly.
Students who have just cleared their class 10 examinations, or do not qualify as per the above mentioned criteria, can still register for the ACCA qualification via Foundation in Accountancy (FIA) route.
It is to be noted that even candidates who are pursuing the Indian CA (Inter / Final) can qualify for further exemptions if they have received 40 or more marks in the relevant subjects even without clearing the entire examination.
ACCA opts for a flexible study approach & has two types of computer-based exams.
- On-demand CBEs: BT, MA, FA and LW.
These exams can be taken at any time of the year. Papers are 100 marks worth of objectivetype questions with a pass mark of 50%. (2 Hour Exams)
- Session CBEs: PM, TX, FR, AA, FM, SBL, SBR, AFM, APM, AAA, ATX.
These exams are held in four sessions: March, June, September & December. The exam duration extends to 3 hours (4 hours for SBL). Papers are 100 marks worth with a pass mark of 50%.

1. Can a student after 12th attempt ACCA?
Students can apply directly after completing their 12th standard. Also 10th pass students can apply through the FIA (Foundation in Accountancy) route.
2. Does a student from 12th Science Background could apply for ACCA?
Any student who has a minimum of 65% marks in Maths or Accounting and English. Along with a minimum of 50 per cent in the other subjects can attempt ACCA.
3. What is the course duration for ACCA?
Graduates usually take 2 – 2.5 years to complete ACCA, while students after 12th standard take 2.5 – 3 years in general.
4. What are exemptions in ACCA?
ACCA Exemptions means the waiving of certain exams by ACCA required for qualification. These exemptions are granted when a candidate has already gained the relevant knowledge and skills through prior learning or achievements, such as completing related courses or certifications. Candidates could skip specific ACCA papers and proceed to the next stage of the qualification process without retaking those exams. The exemptions are determined based on the candidate’s previous qualifications and how they fit with the ACCA syllabus.
5. What are the prior qualifications for claiming ACCA exemptions?
Yes, ACCA offers exemptions for prior qualifications:
- BCom graduates: 5 paper exemptions (Conditional Exemption)
- CA Inter qualified: 5 paper exemptions (6 if BCom completed)
- CA Final qualified: 9 paper exemptions
- CMA India qualified + 5-year experience: 9 paper exemptions
- Integrated BCom graduates from Amrita University: 9 paper exemptions
- Integrated BCom graduates from Chinmaya University: 9 paper exemptions
6. Is ACCA equals to Indian CA?

ACCA exams are computer-based and of 100 marks each, comprising multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and descriptive questions. ‘Section A’ and ‘Section B’ consist of MCQs, while ‘Section C’ contains descriptive questions and case studies.
10. Can I take the ACCA Qualification exams in any order?
No, Exams must be taken in modular order for the ACCA Qualification. You must complete the 3 levels in order, but you can take the exams within each level in any order.
